q. What is Pilates?
a. Pilates is a method of exercise designed to work the body from the inside out. Pilates uses the whole body to improve strength, connectedness and control. It increases flexibility, alignment, balance, and core strength, helping to alleviate back pain, weakness, and inflexibility.
q. What are Pilates mat classes?
a. Pilates mat classes are small group classes designed to focus on strength, coordination and flexibility by using the individuals own body as resistance. Mat classes incorporate the use of small equipment including the flex band, foam roller and bosu.
q. What is Gyrotonic®
a. Gyrotonic® is a method of exercise that incorporates movement principles from yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming, and tai-chi. The three-dimensional movement strengthens muscles while stimulating and strengthening connective tissues in and around the joints and creating length in the spine. Gyrotonic® stretches and strengthens at the same time while increasing range of motion and developing coordination, aiding in greater alignment of the whole body.
q. What is Gyrokinesis®
a. Gyrokinesis® is a moving, seated, yoga which systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating exercises. Postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance than traditional yoga.
q. What is the cost for a Pilates or Gyrotonic® session?
a. The cost for a 60 minute private session is $70
60 minute semi-private session is $50 per person
60 minute group classes are $15 per class
90 minute group classes are $20 per class
q. What is a private session? Semi-private session?
a. Private sessions consist of one client with one instructor on the Pilates or Gyrotonic® equipment. Semi-private sessions consist of 2 clients with one instructor on the Pilates or Gyrotonic® equipment. Private and semi-private sessions offer the most individualized attention allowing you to move at your pace and skill level while still being challenged.
q. What results can I expect from Pilates and Gyrotonic®? How soon?
a. Clients who regularly (2-3 times a week) participate in Pilates and Gyrotonic® gain muscle tone, strength, coordination and an overall sense of well being. Results are usually seen and felt within 2-3 weeks of regularly scheduled sessions or classes.
q. I am new to Pilates & Gyrotonic®. How do I get started?
a. the movement studio suggests 2-3 private sessions to begin. This allows a new client to become acquainted with Pilates and Gyrotonic®. These initial sessions enable you and your instructor to develop a plan for you to realize your fitness goals. This plan may include privates, semi-privates, small group classes, and therapeutic massage.
